Taj Mahal ticket prices and entry rules for 2026
A Taj Mahal day ticket costs INR 1,100 for foreign adults, INR 540 for visitors from SAARC and BIMSTEC countries and INR 50 for Indian citizens. These fares do not include the main mausoleum. Going inside the main mausoleum is an optional extra of INR 200. Children under 15 enter free for day visits.
The Taj Mahal opens 30 minutes before sunrise and closes 30 minutes before sunset. It is closed to tourist day visits on Fridays. The Agra Fort, only a short distance away, stays open on Fridays, so a Friday in Agra is a Fort day. There is no joint Fort and Taj ticket. You buy each entry separately.

Our picks: Taj Mahal tours
The Taj Mahal is closed to day visitors on Fridays, so plan the tour for another day. The sunrise tour is the straightforward choice for an early visit, the fast-track tour suits you if you want a guided visit with less waiting, and the boat-ride tour adds a view from the Yamuna side. The sunrise and boat-ride tours skip the fort, and tickets are included only with the matching option.

Taj Mahal entry fees compared with the Agra Fort
Fares per person in 2026, in Indian rupees.
| Visitor | Taj Mahal | Agra Fort | Fort after a Taj visit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Foreign adult | INR 1,100 | INR 650 | INR 600 |
| SAARC or BIMSTEC adult | INR 540 | INR 90 | INR 40 |
| Indian citizen | INR 50 | INR 50 | โ |
| Child under 15 | Free | Free | Free |
The last column is a reduced Fort rate, not a joint ticket, so you still buy both entries. Ask at the Fort counter how the rate applies on your day. If you have paid the INR 500 ADA levy at one monument on the same day, the other monuments do not charge it again, and there is no ADA levy on Fridays. Do not add the levy on top of the fares above. For most visitors, the plan is to buy the Taj entry first and the Fort entry afterwards. The details for the Fort are on the Agra Fort tickets page.
Opening hours, counters and gates
The times that matter on the day.
Opening hours
From 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset. Sunset moves through the year, so the closing time moves with it.
Ticket counters
The counters open one hour before sunrise and close 45 minutes before sunset. Do not mix these times up with the visiting hours.
East and West Gate
The East Gate and the West Gate are the entrances. The South Gate is closed for entry, so do not plan around it. Both visitor gates have counters and a cloakroom.
Getting to the gate
No polluting motor vehicles are allowed within 500 m of the Taj. Golf carts run for the last stretch. The ride costs INR 25 for Indian guests and is included in the ticket for foreign visitors and for SAARC and BIMSTEC guests. The Shilpgram parking area has been closed since 31 May 2026 for building work, so ask your driver or hotel where cars can stop.
What is in the ticket
Foreign Taj tickets come with shoe covers, water and certain transfers. This does not carry over to Fort tickets.
Rules and what to bring
Carry government photo ID. Large bags are best left at the hotel or in the cloakroom at the gate. Drones, food, smoking, weapons, knives and tripods without permission are not allowed. Photography is not allowed inside the main mausoleum, and phones should be silent or off.
Mehtab Bagh, on the opposite bank of the river, gives a view of the Taj without entering it, but it is a separate ticket and not a free way into the Taj grounds. Another view is from the Agra Fort, where the Musamman Burj looks across the Yamuna toward the Taj in clear air.

Taj Mahal by night
A separate ticket with its own prices and rules.
When it runs
On the full moon night and the two nights before and after. Never on Fridays and not during Ramadan.
Prices
INR 750 for foreign adults, INR 510 for Indian adults and INR 500 for children aged 3 to 15 of all nationalities.
Groups and time
Eight groups of up to 50 people, 30 minutes each. You meet at Shilpgram 30 minutes before your slot, with ID. The evening window starts at 20:00 or 20:30 and ends around midnight, so check the time printed on your ticket.
Booking
Tickets are sold online up to 7 days ahead, and a counter sale the day before is also possible. Confirm the rule for your date.
Rules at night
No phones, video cameras or spare batteries. A handheld still camera is allowed after a check.
Fog, haze and the sunrise view
In winter, fog and air pollution can hide the Taj Mahal, and a clear sunrise view is never guaranteed. Pick a flexible day if you can, and do not fix a whole trip on one morning. The view from the Agra Fort across the river can be hazy too.
Taj Mahal tours
A Taj Mahal tour usually adds a guide and transport. Check whether the entry fare is included, and keep Fridays free of Taj plans. Browse the Agra tours or plan a long day from Delhi on the day trip from Delhi page.
